With the success of the sequel Avatar: The Way of Water, it comes as no surprise that Disney would announce a new Avatar-themed Disneyland experience.
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the addition to Disneyland Anaheim in a blog post and during the company’s Q1 2023 earnings call. Disney has reportedly beaten Wall Street’s estimates with a revenue of $23.51 billion USD. Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney Cruise Line all did particularly well, with Disney Parks, Experiences and Products revenues for the quarter increasing 21% to $8.7 billion USD. The news of the theme park addition comes after the realization that James Cameron‘s film would be one of the biggest films in history. As of now, Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando features “Pandora – The World of Avatar,” an area of the park that is dedicated to two rides, “Avatar Flight of Passage” and “Na’vi River Journey.”
New sequels to Toy Story and Frozen were also announced to be in development alongside a Zootopia sequel. The third and fourth Toy Story films both made more than $1 billion USD at the global box office. As for new Avatar films, Cameron is set to release three more within the franchise in the next few years.
