Digital Extremes — makers of Warframe — have just teased its latest project called Soulframe. This free-to-play MMO will focus on heavy and slow melee combat combined with a story involving humans intertwined with the natural world with themes of “nature, restoration, and exploration.”
And while the team has pointed to Princess Mononok and The NeverEnding Story as inspiration, they did emphasize that the “Soul” in Soulframe does not mean that it will try to replicate the direction of From Software’s Souls series (Elden Ring).
Steve Sinclair of Digital Extremes told Washington Post, “I think it certainly isn’t an inspiration for the initial ideas or what we wanted to do. Ironically, other titles that were maybe borrowing from Warframe might have been some sort of reverse influence. But Elden Ring has absolutely been a subject of some conversation — maybe to do with camera, maybe to do with how excellent their combat pacing is. And you know, screw those guys, because damn, [Elden Ring] was absolutely fantastic.”
There is no official release date as of yet, but the game is already in early development. Those interested can stay tuned over at Soulframe’s dedicated website.
