Department of Justice Reportedly Planning To Sue Live Nation for Antitrust Violations

The United States Department of Justice is allegedly working on filing an antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the suit could be filed as early as May and will assert that Live Nation “has leveraged its dominance in a way that undermined competition for ticketing live events.” Additional details were not shared by sources, however, and representatives for the Justice Department and Live Nation did not release a statement.

Live Nation’s protocols have been subjected to heavy criticism for over a decade, with many accusing the company of being anticompetitive despite its multiple assertions that it does not set ticket prices nor does it hold a monopoly in the market. In 2023, the company was investigated by the US government after its chaotic ticket-selling system for Taylor Swift‘s “The Eras Tour” left many fans empty-handed. Live Nation was then sued by fans for “unlawful conduct.”

Stay tuned for more updates.
