The Denver Nuggets officially won their first NBA championship as they defeated the Miami Heat 94-89 in game five of the 2023 NBA Finals series.
The nail-biting game saw the Nuggets’ Nikola Jokić closing out with 28 points, 16 rebounds and four assists at the Ball Arena, with the team shooting a measly 5-of-28 from the 3-point range as they heavily relied on Jokić. “We are not in it for ourselves, we are in it for the guy next to us,” he said. “And that’s why this (means) even more.”
Jokić was also named the 2023 NBA Finals MVP following his overall MVP awards the last two years.
Meanwhile, the Heat were shooting slightly better at 9-of-34 from deep but it still wasn’t enough to overcome the prowess of the Nuggets. Coach Erik Spoelstra and his team were also missing star Tyler Herro; he was given the green light to play Game 5 after breaking his hand during their series against the Milwaukee Bucks, but he was not utilized during the Finals series at all.
