Channeling her feelings. Demi Lovato dropped a surprise new song on Wednesday (Sept. 30) in the wake of ending her engagement to Max Ehrich.
Titled “Still Have Me,” the pop star released the emotive piano ballad in full via Twitter, writing, “Music is always there for me…” alongside a video of the track. (As of press time, the new release does not yet appear to be available on streaming services.)
“Everything around me shattered/ All the highs are now just lows/ But it doesn’t even matter/ ‘Cause I’d rather be alone/ All my love disappeared and I’m layin’ right here while the silence is piercing/ And it hurts to breath/ I don’t have much but at least I still have me,” she croons before belting out the gospel-infused chorus.
Lovato’s latest track arrives a few weeks after her new mental health-themed dance-pop collaboration with Marshmello, “OK Not To Be OK,” which has thus far peaked at No. 32 on the Hot 100. (The song also hit No. 1 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart.) In the interim, she split from Ehrich just two months after the actor popped the question in a romantic beachside proposal.
Earlier this summer, the singer opened up in a Bustle cover story about the impact of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic on her long-awaited musical comeback. After releasing lead single “I Love Me” and its Travis Barker-assisted emo remix in the spring, Lovato put the plans for her upcoming seventh studio album — a follow-up to 2017’s Tell Me You Love Me — on hold.
