Del Water Gap is opening up about the experience of relying on alcohol to give him a bit of confidence but grappling with complex feelings the next day. The emotionally provoking song is called “Purple Teeth, The Bravery” and appears on the forthcoming deluxe version of his sophomore album, I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet.
The project was released last year and will be receiving its expanded edition on Friday, August 16, via Mom + Pop Music. The new track will be accompanied by another new single, “Midas,” along with other cuts.
“It’s a story about having enough red wine that you suddenly get all brave, and you’re spinning and pushing yourself around and saying a lot of shit you’ve been holding onto and hurting over,” Del Water Gap, whose real name is Samuel Holden Jaffe, said. “And you sleep it off, and you wake up in the morning and you can’t really remember what you said, but you look in the mirror and your teeth are still purple from the night before – and just like that, the guilt starts creeping in.”
“The groundhog day of hurting and burying the hatchet, bottling up and boiling over again and again.”
Stream Del Water Gap’s new song “Purple Teeth, The Bravery” everywhere now. The deluxe edition of I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet is out on Friday.
