D'banj - actionMultiple award-winning Nigerian singer D’banj is gradually losing his endorsement and ambassadorial deals one after the other as the rape allegation against him mounts. 

The past few days have been pretty difficult for Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo better known as D’banj. The singer has been accused of rape by Miss Seyitan Babatayo and more revelation on the matter continues to unfold. According to the victim she was raped by the ‘Oliver Twist’ crooner in December 2018.

Following, the high profile nature of the case the Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu has ordered a probe of the rape case involving the music veteran.

“This is contained in a letter with reference number CB.7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOl.484/801 signed by the Principal Staff Officer to the IG, DCP Idowu Owoh.”

While investigations are currently being carried out some popular companies and multi-nationals have pulled some of D’banj’s ambassadorial deals. One of such is Heritage Bank who have asked the singer to clear his name beyond reasonable doubt.

Online petitions have been signed by thousands of Nigerians seeking more endorsements be pulled from the singer such as United Nations Ambassador for Peace, One Africa, CSA Global, and other establishments associated with him.

It read in part, “We call on the United Nations, and United Nations Women Africa organisations to remove Nigerian artiste Mr Dapo Oyebanjo as a youth ambassador and distance themselves from his actions following the sponsored kidnap of Seyitan who accused D’Banj of r a p e and s e x u a l assault which happened in 2018. . “Women in Nigeria are increasingly at risk of s e x u a l violence and the United Nations and United Nations Women Africa as an entity committed to the empowerment of women should not be seen to associate themselves with alleged r a p i s s t s, abusers, and kidnappers. . “We ask the United Nations and United Nations Women Africa to support and lend their influence in helping Seyitan get justice for the abuse she endured in 2018 and the harassment and bullying in the past weeks.”
