Dave Chappelle and friends made sure to have a blast in a social-distanced way during the Fourth of July weekend.
Chappelle ventured back to his hometown in Dayton, OH, and hosted Chappelle Summer Camp, which featured comedic and musical performances. Those in attendance included Erykah Badu, Common, Talib Kweli, Michael Che, Tiffany Haddish, DJ Trauma, Michelle Wolf, Donnell Rawlings, Cipha Sounds, Questlove, Jon Hamm, Mo Amer and Issa Ali.
During the festive gathering, Chappelle did an action-packed cover of Eric B and Rakim’s “Paid in Full” featuring Common and Talib Kweli. The Roots’ Questlove gushed about his Chappelle Camp Summer experience in an Instagram post he shared after the event.
“Drove 900+ miles to a hippie farm town, got tested 2ce & mask/rantined & got on a drumset for the first time in 4 months,” shared Quest. “To be honest a lot of us were afraid of how rusty we’ve become since March. This was missed & needed (the camaraderie (been a min since I’ve seen/had meaningful conversations w people I know in the flesh) worth the effort. I can’t wait to play music w my pals again. Thanks @DaveChappelle @candytman.”‘
In June, Chappelle shot and filmed his acclaimed 30-minute special 8:46 in Ohio, which reflected on the tragic killing of George Floyd, Kobe Bryant, and more.
