Daniel Arsham and Louis Buhl & Co. Print Nostalgic Fictional Advertisements

Daniel Arsham and Louis Buhl & Co. Print Nostalgic Fictional Advertisements

While Daniel Arsham has been satisfying his nostalgia for Pokémon through a number of efforts including his latest “A Ripple in Time” exhibition in Tokyo, Japan, the New York-based artist in hand with Louis Buhl & Co. are offering offset prints of his Fictional Advertisements. The prints were initially produced for Arsham’s “Turning Wrenches” exhibition at the Library Street Collective back in 2021.

Shifting gears back in time, Arsham wanted to honor the Detroit automotive industry and global car culture through replicas of some within his own car collection as well as automobiles found in classic films such as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Back to the Future. The 1:3 scale cars feature his signature eroded textures with crystalized formations matured from the crevices.

Along with billboard placements, the fictional advertisements take viewers back to the 90s with a vintage aura showcasing bold enlarged headers and paragraphs sandwiching an image of the car replicas. Through the retro-inspired look, the ads give viewers a chance to look into the past or the future through a visual time machine. The composition creates a conversation around the pull of eroded elements and vintage aesthetics that plays with the concept of time.

Limited edition signed prints in quantities of 250 and unsigned prints are now available via Louis Buhl & Co.’s website.
