After announcing plans to reissue their fourth and final album, Random Access Memories (RAM), last month, Daft Punk has dropped off the first track from the upcoming release: “The Writing of Fragments of Time,” featuring Todd Edwards.
The new cut, which arrives alongside a Cédric Hervet-directed music video, is a documentary track that details the writing and recording of Daft Punk’s Todd Edwards collaboration, “Fragments of Time.” According to a release, the song nods back to RAM‘s “Giorgio by Moroder,” in which Giorgio Moroder discusses his creative process and rise to notoriety.
“The Writing of Fragments of Time,” which clocks in just over 8 minutes, comprises a sizable portion of the 35 minutes of unreleased recordings that Daft Punk promises on their forthcoming record. Additional unreleased works will continue to “pull the curtain back to reveal some intimate moments of the creative process from the make of the celebrated 2013 pivotal album.”
Honoring the flagship album, which took home five trophies at the 2014 Grammy Awards, the reissue will be available in several formats, including 3xLP, 2xCD, streaming and downloadable. The record will also be mixed in spatial audio for the first time. The 10th-anniversary reissue of Random Access Memories is due out on May 12.
