COOS COUNTY, Ore. — Friday was day two of the South Coast Clambake Music Festival.
All weekend guests can enjoy live music at the Mill Casino in North Bend.
The performers at the event represent an array of early American genres, from blues, to jazz, to swing,
The festival started out as a way to preserve Coos Bay’s musical roots.
“We have a long heritage in the area of having a lot of different musicians funnel through the area. that started way back in the 20s and 30s when they would come up from southern California to go up to Portland and Seattle. Coos Bay was a midway point and so those people would stop here for the night and play and earn a few bucks on the way,” said South Coast Clambake Music Festival board member, Rick Biasca.
Festivalgoers can take dance classes as well, getting a chance to learn some new steps and dance the night away!
“It’s one of the biggest festivals on the coast as far as great music, great bands for three days, it’s phenomenal,” said swing dance teacher Paul Poresky. “I mean you just don’t get a chance like this to dance these kinds of bands, [the] quality of music…it only happens once a year.”
Anyone interested in taking lessons with Poresky, can attend their class on Saturday at 2:10 p.m. in the Salmon Room.
