Consequence Claims JAY-Z Wanted to Sign Him to Roc-A-Fella

Consequence has revealed that JAY-Z once wanted to sign him to Roc-A-Fella Records.

In a recent appearance on Drink Champs, the rapper shared that all this happened while he was still signed to Q-Tip‘s The Ummah. “I was supposed to sign to Roc-A-Fella, that was what was so ironic,” he said. “Well, not saying supposed to, but JAY was very interested in picking me up.”

Consequence continued that he and JAY-Z first met in 1995 and that they “always kinda intermingled.” He added, “We never had, like, a one-to-one direct relationship, but we always kind of intermingled. It’s just so funny because, like, he spoke to Q-Tip about me, and you know at the time me and Q-Tip was going through a lot of personal things so we didn’t go that route, but I ended up kind of going that direction anyways, so it’s just very ironic. And I’m saying this because I’m actually saluting JAY, because you know, we’ve had our share of troubles. But, he’s always seen the value in what I brought to the table.”

As the story goes, Consequence went on to sign with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music in 2005 up until 2011 when he departed on bad terms. Cons launched his own label, Band Camp Records, and eventually made amends with Ye.
