Christie’s concluded its first on-chain NFT auction yesterday with OpenSea, generating a total of 843 ETH / $3.6m USD across the three-day event.
Curated by Christie’s specialist and head of digital and online sales, Noah Davis, crypto collector and curator Ronnie Pirovino, and nft now, the sale included works by multidisciplinary artist Mad Dog Jones and Miami Vice Rocket by Tom Sachs, amongst many. Several of these artworks were also on view at “The Gateway” exhibition last week at Art Basel Miami.
The auction house reported that the top sale went to CyberKong #201, selling for 185 ETH / $793,439 USD, along with CyberKong #46, which garnered 96.6 ETH / $414,304 USD — with the proceeds of both benefitting the Virunga National Park. Additionally, Friends With You made a splash by selling an artwork, titled fRiENDSiES 00001, for 96.9 ETH $415,591 USD.
In other NFT news, Pak (technically) shattered the record for the largest sale by a living artist.
