Chris Metzen Returns as Blizzard’s Creative Advisor

After a six-year departure from the company, Chris Metzen will be returning to work for Blizzard Entertainment as the creative advisor for the World of Warcraft franchise.

Before his retirement in 2016, Metzen had been with Blizzard for more than 20 years where he served as senior vice president of lore and franchise development. His creative involvement also extended to voice acting, creative direction, designing, artworking, and story writing for other major titles, such as Diablo, Overwatch, StarCraft, and more.

The news was confirmed over Twitter by John Hight, Warcraft’s general manager, where he highlighted that “Chris [Metzen]’s focus initially will be on World of Warcraft, then his work will expand to other projects across this growing franchise.” Hight also noted Metzen’s previous involvement in the franchise as he was “one of the original team members working on the Warcraft universe back when it began in 1994.”
