We say goodbye to Donald Glover‘s Childish Gambino moniker as he releases his fifth and final studio album, Bando Stone & The New World.
Clocking in at one hour, the 17-track album features guest appearances from Amaarae, Chlöe, Flo Milli, Jorja Smith, Yeat, Fousheé and Khruangbin, and serves as the accompanying soundtrack to Glover’s film of the same name. In a recent interview with The New York Times, he revealed that he was inspired by a “feature film idea he had years ago, about a musician recording his masterpiece on a remote island when a global calamity strikes,” further reflecting on the idea of lacking a purpose. “I feel like everybody goes through that, not just artists,” he said. “That feeling of like, ‘What is any of this for?’”
He also clarified that he has no bad blood with anyone or anything with the closure of his chapter as Childish Gambino, “It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done.’” Glover added, “It’s not not fulfilling. And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore.”
