Check Out Takashi Murakami’s Vibrant ‘Still Lifes with Flowers’ Exhibit

Check Out Takashi Murakami's Vibrant 'Still Lifes with Flowers' Exhibit

Takashi Murakami is bringing his infamous floral aesthetic and beloved characters including Mr. DOB, Kaikai and Kiki to Perrotin Shanghai for his second solo exhibition at the gallery. Named Still Lifes with Flowers, the extensive, immersive display is centered around a large-scale painting – with Mr. DOB as the focal point – titled 727 NYC and spans a wide range of Murakami’s work from 2022 and 2023.

Murakami also adds a set of new floral series to the exhibit – a range of paintings showcasing bouquets arranged in jars and vases, surrounded by subtle koi fish.

Murakami also brings pixelated maneki-neko (“beckoning cat”) – Lucky Cats, which possess great cultural significance in Japan – into the universe as well. “They are commonly believed to bring good luck to their owners and have a centuries-long history. The figurines of lucky cats are typically made from ceramic and have, in a way, become one of the symbols most closely associated with Japanese culture,” Perrotin wrote on Instagram. Take a closer look at the pieces on display in the gallery below.

Stop by Murakami’s Still Lives with Flowers exhibition on display at the below address through December 23, 2023. Find the full exhibition info at Perrotin’s website.
