Gamers have been given a sneak preview of what Elden Ring gameplay will look like when it releases in February. Developed by FromSoftware, twenty minutes of gameplay were streamed at an online showcase from its publisher Bandai Namco.

The action-adventure game takes place in a mythical world called The Lands Between, occupied by dragons, trolls and other fantastical creatures. Players explore the lands by navigating a character named the Tarnished, along the way, facing off with humans and creatures alike.

Battles appear to be mostly combat-based and players can even summon spirits, which are described “vary greatly in type,” to assist them with fighting. Players can experiment with different spirits to find their personal favorites.

Online multiplayer mode will be available, with cooperative, competitive and invasion mode options.

Fans of Game of Thrones will be excited to learn that Elden Ring’s world was “written collaboratively between game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin,” the author of the series, according to Kotaku. Some fans have pointed to Martin, who notably takes his time with projects, as the reason for its drawn-out release.

The game was first announced at E3 in 2019 but little was said about its development in the ensuing two years. Then, two weeks ago, leaked footage of gameplay circulated online.

Elden Ring is now slated for release on February 25, 2022, for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. In the meantime, FromSoftware will be conducting technical tests for the game in the United States.

In other gaming news, there’s a free-to-play Squid Game clone on Steam.
