ChatGPT’s Voice Chat Feature Is Now Available for All Free Users

ChatGPT's Voice Chat Feature Is Now Available for All Free Users

OpenAI first introduced its voice chat function for ChatGPT in September. The feature, which lets users engage in back-and-forth conversations with the chatbot, was originally only available to Plus and Enterprise subscribers on Android and iOS. Now, however, the company has launched voice chat for all free users on mobile devices.

Greg Brockman, co-founder of OpenAI, took to X to share the news, writing, “ChatGPT Voice rolled out for all free users.”

ChatGPT’s voice chat feature operates with a text-to-speech model that is capable of producing “human-like audio from just text and a few seconds of sample speech.” In order to accomplish this, OpenAI hired several voice actors to provide five different voices for ChatGPT.

The function will likely take some time to reach all accounts across devices. Paid subscribers would previously have to turn on voice chats in the “New Features” settings menu, but it’s presently unclear whether users will have to manually enable the feature, now that it’s free for all.
