Fort Worth, Texas, native Clarkson, 38, the winner of the inaugural season of American Idol in 2002, boasts two other Hot Country Songs top 10s, also collaborations: “Because of You,” with Reba McEntire, reached No. 2 on 2007 — after Clarkson’s original hit No. 7 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 in 2005 — and “Under the Mistletoe,” with Brett Eldredge, jingled to No. 10 in December 2020.
“Stay” also crossed over to a No. 3 peak on the Adult Contemporary chart and No. 9 on Adult Pop Airplay. It’s Aldean’s only top 10 on each tally and one of Clarkson’s 16 top 10s on each list.
Clarkson, who has collected 11 Hot 100 top 10s including three No. 1s, is back for a seventh season as a coach on NBC’s The Voice, whose 20th-season premiere aired March 1.
