Charles Oliveira Crowned 2022 ESPYS Fighter of the Year

At 32 years of age, Brazilian fighter Charles “Do Bronxs” Oliveira has been named the 2022 ESPYS Fighter of the Year. After what was said to be a close race between fellow UFC fighters Kamaru Usman, Alexander Volkanovski, and Kayla Harrison, Oliveira claims the coveted award, succeeding the now-retired Khabib Nurmagomedov who was chosen for 2021.

Do Bronxs holds a record of 33-8 with one no-contest and is currently running hot with an 11-fight win streak. He most recently triumphed over Justin Gaethje in the first round via submission for UFC 273 but was stripped of his belt due to missing weight by 0.5 pounds. Shortly after being picked as the winner of the ESPYS award, the UFC announced Oliveira will be facing off against Islam Makhachev this October in Abu Dhabi for UFC 280. The highly-anticipated bout will be for the UFC lightweight title. Fighting out of Dagestan, Makhachev is one of the top prospects in the organization with a UFC record of 11-1. After the UFC 280 title fight was announced, Volkanovski spoke on Twitter writing, “I got the winner!!”

Stay tuned for more details to be announced in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere in sports, LeBron James shows out in first Drew League game since 2011.
