The Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne Tha God will host a new weekly series on Comedy Central titled Tha God’s Honest Truth with Lenard “Charlamagne” McKelvey. The show is co-created by Stephen Colbert and executive produced by The Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder. Expect to see Charlamagne’s unique personality on display, offering social commentary on culturally relevant issues.
Charlamagne announced his excitement for the show to kick-off saying: “This is the third talk show Chris McCarthy has done with me, and those shows prepared me for this opportunity. My South Carolina brethren Stephen Colbert is the ultimate cosign in the late-night space, and he wouldn’t cosign no bullsh*t! We are going to win an Emmy next year for best lighting direction I can feel it!!!” In an odd coincidence, Colbert’s brother was a teacher at Charlamagne’s middle school, and Charlamagne and Colbert have bonded over the years over their shared South Carolina roots.
“For too long, the town of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, has been underrepresented in late-night,” Colbert added. “I look forward to all the ways in which the fearless, peerless Charlamagne is going to change the game.”
The weekly 30-minute program is set to launch on September 17 on Comedy Central and will run Fridays at 10 p.m. EDT.
In other entertainment news, Grimes and will.i.am will judge an avatar singing competition titled Alter Ego.
