Chanel will hold a fashion show in Manchester later this year, the luxury fashion house has announced.
The annual Métiers d’Art show will be held at a venue in our city this December, but the exact location remains a mystery. The annual collection, which translates to Master of Art, celebrates the artisinal houses that contribute to fashion.
The event on December 7 will make Chanel the first major luxury fashion house to show in Manchester. In previous years, Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show has been held in cities such as New York, Edinburgh, and Tokyo.

The collection pays tribute to the artisanal skills of the 600 embroiderers, feather workers, goldsmiths, shoemakers, milliners, glove makers, embroiderers, tanners, and leatherworkers who work in Chanel’s Paris headquarters.
Fashion experts and lovers alike have celebrates the luxury brand’s decison to host in Manchester, hailing it as an ‘exciting opportunity’ for the city.
Speaking to Drapers, Paul Alger, director of international business development at the UK Fashion & Textile Association (UKFT), said: “One of the things about Manchester is that a lot of people don’t know about it [as a fashion destination] or think to go there, so it [the Chanel show] gives them the chance to realise what it has to offer as a city.”
Destinations for the Métiers d’Art show are chosen on their history and relationship to artisanal production. As what was once the centre of the cotton industry, earning Manchester its ‘Cottonopolis’ nickname, the city is a fitting location for a show that celebrates the materials and craft that go into making luxury fashion.
