Chai have released a new song called “Whole.” It’s just been tapped as the theme song for Koi-senu Futari, a Japanese rom-com drama series on the public broadcaster NHK. Check it out below.
Band member Yuuki explained the song’s lyrics in a statement, writing, “Sometimes, no one empathizes with you. But is that really a bad thing? I don’t want to make my thing, or someone else’s thing, something to be ashamed of. Because our ‘differences’ may not be our enemies. I wish we could love each other’s little differences and little similarities entirely—that’s the hope behind this song.”
Last year, Chai followed up their Sub Pop debut Wink with the new song “Miniskirt” and a remix EP titled Wink Together. They also released a cover of Wham!’s holiday classic “Last Christmas.” Next month, Chai will kick off their North American tour opening for Mitski.
