Georgia’s Senate races advanced to runoff elections on Tuesday (Jan. 5), after no candidate garnered more than 50% of the general election vote.
The runoff is a crucial one, as the races between Republican Sen. David Perdue and Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler and the Rev. Raphael Warnock will determine which party controls the Senate. If the Democrats win both races, each party will have 50 seats in Congress’ upper chamber. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, however, will be the tie-breaking vote for the Democratic Party.
