Winans previously topped Gospel Airplay with “Pray” for two weeks in January-February 2006. (The chart began in 2005, while her history on Billboard surveys dates to the 1980s.) She has banked one additional top 10 among her eight appearances on the tally, as “Never Have to Be Alone” climbed to No. 5 in April 2017.
THIRD No. 1 Elevation Worship and gospel collective Maverick City Music claim their third shared No. 1, all of which have debuted at the summit, on the multi-metric Hot Gospel Songs survey with “Wait on You,” featuring Dante Bowe and Chandler Moore. On Hot Christian Songs, it starts at No. 9.
On the April 24-dated lists, the act’s “Talking to Jesus,” featuring Brandon Lake, flew in atop Hot Gospel Songs and at No. 9 on Hot Christian Songs. On the April 10-dated rankings, their “Jireh,” featuring Moore and Naomi Rain, debuted at Nos. 1 and 10 on the respective charts.
This week, as “Wait” ranks at No. 1 on Hot Gospel Songs, “Jireh” is No. 2 and “Talking to Jesus” is at No. 3. The only other act to monopolize the top three is Kanye West, thanks to his first faith-based album, Jesus Is King. On Nov. 9, 2019, when the set debuted at No. 1 on Top Christian Albums and Top Gospel Albums, he took over the top 10 on both Hot Christian Songs and Hot Gospel Songs with tracks from the album.
“Wait” bows with 2.1 million U.S. streams and 3,000 sold, as it begins at No. 1 on Christian Digital Song Sales and Gospel Digital Song Sales. It also enters atop Gospel Streaming Songs and at No. 5 on Christian Streaming Songs.
As “Wait” marks the third Hot Gospel Songs leader for both Charlotte, N.C.-based Elevation Worship and Atlanta-based Maverick City Music, it’s the former’s ninth Hot Christian Songs top 10 and the latter’s third.
Bowe earns his first No. 1 on Hot Gospel Songs and first top 10 on Hot Christian Songs. Moore adds his second leader on the former and second top 10 on the latter.
“Wait,” “Jireh,” and “Talking to Jesus” preview Elevation Worship and Maverick City Music’s collaborative album Old Church Basement, released April 30. It will impact next week’s, May 15-dated Billboard charts.
