I love it when items of clothing really last. And I don’t just mean in terms of trends, although that is helpful, but durability too. One pair of sandals that I’ve worn repeatedly over the past four summers is a pair of black block-heel sandals from & Other Stories. They’re classic, not too high and go with everything from jeans to midi dresses. They’re the kind of shoes I can easily wear in the office, as they’re not too high to walk around in, but they’ve also seen me through quite a few weddings. This season, & Other Stories has had a great drop of footwear that is ideal for this summer and the next few years to come. The high-street store often combines current trends with classic styles, so whenever you buy from this shop, I always think you’re getting more...
Automotive News reports that a group of owners of 2011 and newer Ford Mustangs is suing the company over alleged defects in the sports car’s Getrag MT82 six-speed manual transmission. The suit alleges that Ford knows of the issue but has not taken adequate steps to prevent it, despite a series of technical service bulletins (TSBs) and other guidance to dealerships about various transmission problems. The TSBs address a number of issues, all related to shift quality: Grinding, higher-than-expected shift effort, delayed clutch re-engagement, and notchiness. A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigation found there was no safety risk associated with the issues, and Ford provided a few fixes that are claimed to address these complaints. You can check out the NHTS...
David Freiburger has been a busy (rumble) bee while working from home, and he’s uncovered even more automotive treasures. The lifelong hot rodder and off-roader has amassed such an impressive collection automobilia, parts, tools, and cars that it was all too much to show you in one installment! Dive in for another journey with Freiburger through the mini-Mecca that is his garage! Vintage Stickers and Decals on David Freiburger’s Toolbox Most of us car nuts have collected many a sticker and decal in our travels, and Freiburger is no different. They come with speed parts, they get handed out at events, sometimes we even pay for them because they’re just too cool to pass up, but the collection on the side of Freiburger’s toolbox is more than just a random hodgepodge of...
There are plenty of chic trends for the taking in summer 2020 (aka, styles that we can still relish in throughout quarantine)—long shorts, elevated raffia bags, uplifting tie-dye, runway-inspired crochet, and playful puff sleeves. These trends skip merrily hand in hand with the casual and free-spirited nature of summer. But today, our focus is on the more unexpected summer trends that have been dominating our Insta feeds this year. Call them microtrends, if you will. These unique looks are wonderfully unpredictable and have been embraced by the fashion set, causing a ripple effect on the ‘gram. Read on to see the unexpectedly cool trends coming at us this summer, and shop them for yourself. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates O...
A snack. A cup of tea. Another glass of water. A quick check of Instagram. A WhatsApp to your friends of that funny video you saw of some woman making tea badly. Let’s be honest. These are just a few things that could be distracting when working from home. It is tough to remain productive, especially as we’re now many days into our routine of mostly staying in the house. So it’s time to pull out the big guns. And that means buying new stationery. I’m a firm believer in making sure you have your surroundings in check before you start working (I have to work with a tidy desk), and a great pen and a nice notepad are just part of that. Of course, stationery is so much more. There are the sticky notes, pencil cases, stamps, file holders, pencil pots, etc. I cou...
Ever have an item of clothing that people can’t stop asking you where it’s from? That piece for me right now is a vintage gold chain I bought from eBay for a tenner. Every time I wear it, I get dozens of messages on Instagram about it (because the only place you’ll really see an outfit right now is on Instagram). For a fashion editor, I have a moderate following on the platform; it’s nearing the 2K mark, but it’s not huge, especially in comparison to a lot of other peers and colleagues. This isn’t to make you feel pity for my lack of social media fans, but rather to highlight that my reach isn’t massive, yet followers message me about this necklace more than anything else. For a bit of background on this piece of jewe...
If you are well versed in the art of high-street shopping, you’ll know the immense satisfaction that comes from discovering a new brand to add to your favourites list. While I have known of Monki for years, for some reason, I had it filed under the Gen Z tab of my mental fashion folder, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it was never at the top of my priority list when a new season appeared on the horizon. We all know that Tesla can update its cars “over the air,” meaning via a wireless internet data connection. Even though the tech is getting standardized across the industry, Tesla is one of the few companies that can do things like add driving range or power via a software update, unlocking electronically cordoned-off battery capacity or energy distribution. Your Tesla can always get better, it seems, but not only by Tesla’s hand. That’s right—a Canadian company is now offering its own squirts of extra performance for the Model 3 sedan by way of software updates of its own, and for less than half the price Tesla charges its customers for a similar boost. According to Elektrek, a Canadian company called Ingenext has found a way to unlock an extra 50 horsepower from a...
Porsche is pulling the wraps off a duo of new SUVs: the Cayenne GTS and the Cayenne GTS Coupe. What’s GTS mean? In Porsche-speak, the GTS is the Goldilocks offering. Not too bare bones, but not too pricey; that last bit’s relative. Typically speaking, the GTS model comes complete with all the expensive, optional go-faster bits you want on the S model, some extra thrust, and a lowered ride height, all for a lower price. The new Cayenne GTS models are no exception. The V-8 is Back, Baby! The very first Cayenne GTS came with a 399-hp naturally aspirated V-8, and a manual transmission was an option! Obviously, the world’s been going downhill since then. The second-generation Cayenne GTS still had an N/A V-8 (autobox-only) and produced 414 hp. After a mid-cycle refresh, the Ca...
According to a recent report published in Infosecurity Magazine, a Berlin-based techno DJ and producer named Denis Kaznacheev has been arrested for cybercrime activity at the request of the United States government. In an ensuing report by Trommel, the electronic music magazine stated that Kaznacheev is convinced the charges stem from a theft of his identity. As a result, he launched a Change.org petition to prevent his pending extradition to the US. In the meantime, Kaznacheev’s manager confirmed to Trommel that the DJ is currently being held in Berlin’s Moabit prison. Kaznacheev, who is accused of “money laundering and dark web activities,” vehemently asserted his innocence in a June 6th message posted to his Facebook, which was ...
If there’s one item of clothing I recommend more than any other, it has to be the jumpsuit. Regardless of body shape or age, it’s something that can really enhance your wardrobe, in terms of cool factor, versatility and dressing ease. I wear my utility jumpsuits all year round (my favourites are from M&S, Gap and Mango), but when it comes to high summer, I replace my long-sleeved iterations with playsuits. While I try to avoid speaking in binaries when it comes to personal style, I think it’s fair to say that I classify myself as a “trouser person.” It’s not that I don’t embrace dresses in the heat of high summer or throw on the odd skirt every now and then (my black slip is a real wardrobe workhorse), but catch me on any given day of the week and chances are I’ll be wearing trousers.
