Summer is on its way and with it comes an influx of new seasonal trends. From tie-dye to linen, and Bermuda shorts, there are a few standout looks that certainly seems to have taken over our Instagram feeds in recent months. Though not all trends are immediately obvious, as sometimes it can be the smaller details that make a look even more impactful. Enter my favourite summer dress mirco-trend: cut-out silhouettes. Whether it be an open back detail, front key-hole or waist-enhancing side splits, cut-out silhouettes seem to be everywhere at the minute. From influencer imagery to e-comm campaigns, this interesting detail has been highlighted across high-street and designer items, proving its popularity once and for all. Whether it be Cult Gaia’s Serita dress, already worn by...
Nothing gets me more excited for summer than a great body product. The minute the sun starts shining, the first thing I do is dust off my go-to body beauty products from summers past and slather myself in them top to toe. If you ask me, you really can’t beat the feeling of prepping your body ready for a day of sun-drenched fun. You see, while a good summer body routine leaves skin silky smooth and glowing (which in itself is sure to make you feel good), the act of actually using summery-scented products comes with its own level of joy entirely. From sun cream and sunshine to tropical cocktails and zesty fruits, when the scents of summer come all wrapped up in the form of super nourishing, skin-loving beauty products, it’s like all of the great feelings that come hand-in-hand...
If there’s one brand that has been inescapable over the past few years it’s been Gucci. Since 2015, under the creative direction of Alessandro Michele, the brand has become one of the hottest fashion houses around. Thanks to Alessandro’s exciting and fresh vision countless other designers and high street brands have followed the edgy-grandma-meets-the-seventies trend. But the real crux of the fashion house’s success lies in its accessibility. While some opt to wear the brand sunglasses-to-platforms, others can easily dip their toe in with a bag or a pair of shoes. But one of the easiest ways to get the Gucci look? Wear one of the now-iconic double G belts. It has a cool but goes-with-everything-in-your-wardrobe appeal that makes it a must fo...
A few weeks back, I wrote an article about the powerful role nostalgia is playing in the fashion industry, both over the course of the last year and up to the present day, as creatives struggle to create new content due to social distancing. I’ve watched as magazines have been forced to delve into the archives yet come out with the most stunning finds, which more than deserves a second outing. Plus, as we seek to make our shopping habits more sustainable, you could argue than the same rule could apply to imagery. Why create so much newness when we have a rich and inspiring back catalogue at our disposal? Of course, there’ll always be a need for innovation and fresh ideas in fashion, but the irony is that I personally ...
When you decide to redecorate, whether you’re in a rented place or one you own, it can feel overwhelming. For months, I have been saving random images, screenshots and torn out pictures from home design magazines to get a good idea of what I want my house to look like. It’s fun, of course, but it’s also starting to get a bit confusing about what I really want. Happily, it turns out there are plenty of fashion influencers who have recently redecorated or just have impeccable taste when it comes to interiors and who I’m stealing ideas from. There’s Laura Jackson, who has the most exceptional eye for detail when it comes to finding just the right vintage piece—she has a more maximalist style but it feels super homey. Then there’s the opposite in t...
For someone like me who’d rather spend money on jeans and shoes than swimsuits, affordable brands like H&M are high on my swimwear list. Just like the rest of its offerings, the store is regularly adding new swimsuits to its inventory, but it can be tricky to choose the right swimsuit sight unseen. H&M is helping out with that. Recently, the brand sent out an email entirely dedicated to one particular swimsuit. The subject line of the email was “The most flattering swimsuit—ever.” Obviously a bold statement, but of course I was convinced to open the email. The swimsuit in question is a new collection of pastel-coloured crinkled-fabric swimsuits, which H&M also called out as being comfortable, and it looks ...
The team at Who What Wear UK prides itself on uncovering cult items before they’ve even made it off the production line. We’re keen, to say the least, and a great portion of our time is spent documenting and analysing the Instagram posts of the thousands of cool women we follow on Instagram for high-street sightings. In fact, we have WhatsApp groups and Slack channels dedicated to these affordably priced power pieces, and we want to update you on them as soon as possible (aka after we’ve bought our faves). Our skills are so attuned that more often than not, we’ll have an inkling about a certain piece before it has hit the big time. Sometimes, you’ll find a flurry of brand-specific action due to a paid activation or natural desire to wear a parti...
This hybrid isn’t exactly new on the scene, yet it feels like the ideal compromise for our current WFH wardrobes. Most importantly, like classic joggers, it features an elastic waistband—a small yet significant detail that is far more appealing than any high-waisted jeans or restricted button fastening. However, the point of difference is the fabric and the silhouette. Countless brands have delivered stretchy-waist trousers in smart fabrics such as wool-blend, silk, herringbone and crêpe, transforming this loungewear go-to into a polished staple. The chicest styles come with a wide-leg fit that is tailored at the waist and tapers out at the thigh. It offers a beautiful slouch that will complement everything from tank tops and white shirts to chunky sandals and sneakers. In other word...
Everyone knows that they should be wearing SPF every day, but in all honesty, I kind of get why it’s such a difficult cause to get behind. With the way that it feels on the skin and formulas that seem to aggravate breakouts, being willing to apply SPF every day when you can’t physically see the damage that the sun is causing is quite an accomplishment. With that being said, I do apply it every day (gold star for me), and I will continue to harp on about the importance of doing so, even if my nagging falls on deaf ears. So yes, avoiding daily SPF application, come rain or shine, is logic I can sort of reason with. However, I absolutely draw the line at skipping SPF for a day spent sunbathing. And yes, this is far more common than you might think it is. During the recent heatwave, ...

A silk scarf is your perfect spring and summer accessory. Besides being a favourite on the spring/summer 2020 runways, it’s also one of fashion’s most sustainable styling trends. You can make a scarf out of any fabric you have lying around and use it in countless ways: from saving yourself from a bad hair day to instantly elevating a casual at-home look and even as a makeshift mask for protecting yourself from the coronavirus (COVID-19). On the spring/summer 2020 runways, we’re taking inspiration from the scarfs worn as belts at Tommy Hilfiger, the scarf-print bandeau tops at Bronx & Banco, the massive pussy-bow-tied scarfs at Tory Burch, and the simple french-knot-tied scarfs at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi. We love that a scarf can be styled to look cool, as much as i...
The coronavirus is completely transforming our relationship with fashion and clothing. While we reflect on the ethical footprint of our everyday purchases, our favourite brands are being forced to take sustainability more seriously. The pandemic has shown us how globally connected we all are — for better or worse. If fashion wants to thrive post-lockdown, then companies must connect the stories of those making clothes to the people buying them and how that aligns with the needs of our planet. Fashion’s embrace of sustainability has been slower than expected, but with shoppers becoming more conscious of our consumption, popular brands are responding more quickly to demand. What is lacking is brand transparency. Fashion Revolution Week 2020 marks the seven-year anniversary of the Rana ...
