Due to the ongoing pandemic, Weezer have been forced to postpone their new metal-inspired album, Van Weezer. A new release date hasn’t been given yet, but Rivers Cuomo & co. are making it up to their patient fans by sharing a fresh single titled “Hero”. Although Weezer are suckers for a darn good cover, today’s offering is not plucked from Mariah Carey’s catalog. “Hero” instead finds them amplifying their KISS and Metallica fandom for a cut rife with sharp, shredding guitars and a blaring, arena-ready chorus. The new song comes paired with an official music video shot during quarantine. It features footage of the band while on lockdown — Cuomo is sporting an interesting mustache these days — but more importantly pays tribute to the real heroes: frontline workers. “This one is for ...

The idea of Jimmy Fallon impersonating Nicolas Cage playing Tiger King’s Joe Exotic reads like something an Internet algorithm made up. Alas, The Tonight Show clown king made it a reality on Tuesday night, capitalizing on the news of the forthcoming scripted series. Basically, it’s Fallon doing his best bar room gesticulation of Cage, only wearing all the Tiger King accoutrements. The bleach-blonde wig? Check. The ’90s Fleer Ultra shades? Check. The Spirit Halloween threads? Check. He even wrote a country song. Of course, this writer is well aware of the hypocrisy that he’s writing this up and promoting it. But, if you’re like him, and already convinced the world is teetering on the edge of destruction, then perhaps you’ll take joy in muting the video and simply imagining Fallon has just l...
After Skrillex was recently announced as one of the performers at the 24-hour radio takeover event Remote Utopias, the EDM world went into a frenzy. Skrillex has hosted a few livestreams over the course of the pandemic, but they were more geared towards interaction with his fans and fellow producers as opposed to a full-blown DJ set. That is set to change this Sunday, when Remote Utopias will be hosting Skrillex for a B2B set with Thys of famed electronic act Noisia at the 24-hour radio takeover event hosted by NTS Radio. According to the official NTS Radio mobile app, which shared the event’s schedule, a Skrillex B2B Thys set is planned on Sunday, May 3rd at 3:45AM. As of the time of writing, there is no word on whether it will be a new live set or a re-broa...
Illenium and X Ambassadors today shared the “Stripped” version of their collaborative single “In Your Arms,” which appeared on the former’s Ascend LP back in August 2019. Peeling the original down to its barebones, Illenium and X Ambassadors have delivered a poignant rework of the original track that displays the classically-trained side of both artists. Illenium’s most recent release came earlier in the month of April, when he uncorked a monster collaboration with dubstep don Excision called “Feel Something” featuring I Prevail. Additionally, their fan favorite debut B2B set from Lost Lands 2019 was uploaded in full by the festival’s organizers. Illenium and Sam Harris of X Ambassadors also performed the original ...
Baauer today unveiled the second single from his upcoming Planet’s Mad LP, “AETHER,” a haunting trap tune that was released alongside a video game-inspired music video directed by Actual Objects (Rick Farin and Claire Cochran). “AETHER” is a dark, menacing trap number with ferocious breakbeats and thunderous 808s that sounds like it’s straight out of an action scene from Blade Runner. The accompanying music video laces the track through an alien landscape, taking viewers on an audiovisual journey through the mind of one of the most forward-thinking producer in electronic music. Along with “AETHER” comes a b-side track called “YEHOO,” a quirky, moombah-inspired bass single produced in collaboration with fellow P...

Millie Small, who is known for bringing ska music to the masses with “My Boy Lollipop,” died in London yesterday (May 5) following a stroke, the BBC reported. She was 72. “Millie opened the door for Jamaican music to the world. It became a hit pretty much everywhere in the world,” Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, who produced Small’s 1964 single, said in a statement. “I went with her around the world because each of the territories wanted her to turn up and do TV shows and such, and it was just incredible how she handled it. She was such a really sweet person, very funny, great sense of humour. She was really special.” Small became known on the global stage when her song, “My Boy Lollipop” peaked at No. 2 on both the U.S. and UK charts. The song is still one of the “all-time biggest...
Weezer has shared a new song from their upcoming Van Weezer album. “Hero” features the band’s classic power-pop sound from their earlier days. It’s the first song they’ve shared since last year’s “End Of The Game.” For the video that was shot from quarantine, Weezer enlisted folks to participate in the tightly-edited clip where the mustached Rivers Cuomo (sporting a KISS shirt) passes a handwritten note — that makes it way around the world (and looks like one gigantic Zoom call) and that folks can see at the end of the video. “This one is for the stay at home dreamers, the zoom graduators, the sourdough bakers, and the essential workers,” the caption for the clips reads. As of now, Weezer is slated to join Green Day and Fall Out Boy on their Hella Mega stadium tour. However,...
Source: Michael Ochs Archives / Getty Millie Small, a Jamaican singer who found global fame as a teenager, has died and the music world is joined in mourning. Small became the first artist from Jamaica to have a single chart on both the American and British charts. Small was born on October 6, 1946, in Clarendon, Jamaica, and raised primarily in Kingston as she pursued a musical career. At 12, Small won the Opportunity Hour vocal competition that sparked her interest in singing full-time. In the early 1960s, Small, under the guidance of her manager Chris Blackwell, moved to London where she recorded her version of Barbie Gay’s “My Boy Lollipop.” The song reached number two on the UK Singles Chart and landed on the United States’ Billboard Hot 100 chart. In many circles and rightfully so, S...
