“Space Is Hard” in the First Official Trailer for Steve Carell’s Space Force: Watch

Space Force, the new Netflix sitcom co-created by Steve Carell and Greg Daniels (The Office), has released its first official trailer. And while “Space is hard,” as Carrell’s General Naird says in the clip, the jokes come easily for this veteran comedic cast. As you may have guessed, the series mocks President Trump’s idea for sixth military branch. But the new satire has some targets on the political left, too, and in the trailer a young congresswoman of color with big hoop earrings has the bizarre idea to make “space is hard” the official Space Force motto. The trailer tracks General Naird as he goes from mocking the new branch to becoming its reluctant leader. He’s assisted by the scientist Dr. Adrian Mallory (John Malkovich, in a toned-down riff on Dr. Strangelove) and S...

Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Weezer Postpone “Hella Mega Tour” Until 2021 Due to Coronavirus

Weezer (photo by Ben Kaye), Green Day (photo by Heather Kaplan), and Fall Out Boy (photo by Philip Cosores) Sadly, the “Hella Mega Tour” has been hella postponed. Green Day, Fall Out Boy, and Weezer were set to perform together throughout Europe and North America this summer, but now they’ve announced that they’re pushing the entire outing back to Summer 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The massive tour was originally supposed to begin overseas on June 13th. That European leg, which was scrapped back in April, also featured stops in Vienna, London, and Dublin. The pop punk triad were then scheduled to play North America from mid-July through the end of August. Girl Friday Announce Debut Album Androgynous Mary, Share “Amber’s Knees”: Stream

Girl Friday have announced their debut album Androgynous Mary. In anticipation of the August 21st release, the genre-fluid rockers have shared the music video for their lead single “Amber’s Knees: A Matter of Concern”. The LA quartet first gained national attention when they were named finalists in the 2018 Vans Share the Stage competition. Girl Friday followed that accomplishment with the 2019 Fashion Conman EP, a marvelous project that sounded like Robert Smith went surfing with Iggy Pop. “Amber’s Knees: A Matter of Concern” continues the exploration of sunny, guitard-driven post-punk. It’s melodically simple but structurally dense, with an intro, a couple of verses, a big shout-a-long chorus, a bridge, and an outro, all crammed into a tight three minutes. In a statement, Girl Frida...

Jonah Ray: Tracking The Sounds Of My Life (Memories and the Corresponding Music)

Each month, musician/comedian/podcaster/overall Renaissance man Jonah Ray will share memories about his “music adjacent life” that will often be more embarrassing than informative. The Worst Roadie…. I was 19, living in San Pedro, California and floating around my own life. I had moved out to Los Angeles to do comedy but was too scared to start. I knew people down in “Pedro” because the year before, THE JAG-OFFS came and played some shows in Hawaii (where I’m from). So, when it came time to head to Los Angeles to start on my journey to FAME AND FORTUNE, I moved to the only town I knew people in. While living in San Pedro, I auditioned to play drums for TOYS THAT KILL, the fairly new incarnation of one of my favorite bands, F.Y.P. I didn’t get the gig. Then, I had an unfortunate, short-run ...

Mike Posner Says He Has Unfinished Music with Avicii: “Makes Me Feel Grateful and Sad at the Same Time”

Avicii‘s tragic passing was over two years ago, but even beyond the grave, he touches someone every day in one way or another. On February 16th, it was Tiësto. On March 23rd, it was the designers of his Hollywood Hills home. And on April 20th, it was Aloe Blacc. Today it happened to be Mike Posner, who took to Twitter to share that he has a number of unfinished songs with the late Tim Bergling on his computer. He ended the poignant tweet by writing that the songs make him “feel grateful and sad at the same time.” Posner was a close friend of Avicii’s, famously referencing the legendary dance music artist in his global smash “I Took a Pill In Ibiza.” While they never officially released a song together on streaming platforms, they were known to colla...

The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde Covers Bob Dylan’s ‘Standing in the Doorway’

While they’ve been in quarantine, Chrissie Hynde and James Walbourne of The Pretenders have been putting together their own series of songs called “Dylan Lockdown Series.” And their latest collaborative cover is Bob Dylan’s “Standing in the Doorway,” off 1997’s Time Out of Mind. Sticking to a similar arrangement to the original, piano, organ and electric guitar with light drums provides a soft pillow for Hynde’s vocals to lie on. Meanwhile, the video showcases a lot of outdoor space — something many people are wishing for right now — giving the song a place to breathe. “Thanks one more to Tchad Blake on mixing duties and the whole Blake family for the video,” she posted on Instagram to announce the new recording. The Pretenders have been gearing up for the release of their new album, Hate ...
