Spike Lee and Ray Allen Working on He Got Game 2

Jesus Shuttlesworth may hit the court again. In a new interview with The Encore, director Spike Lee discussed the possibility of a sequel to 1998’s He Got Game. He even has a new player in mind: New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson. “We were trying to, B.C. not ‘before Christ’ but ‘before corona,’ try to get a meet and greet (with Zion),” Lee explained. “Ray [Allen] and I were going to go to a home game in New Orleans. So, I’m still for it. The story is murky in my mind, but the material is so rich.” So would Williamson. Last year, the 19-year-old player expressed interest to Esquire, saying: “I would wanna be in the sequel to He Got Game, I would definitely want to be, like, in the Part 2 of that movie.” This isn’t the first time talk of a sequel has popped up. Allen spoke to ESPN...

The Academy May Postpone Oscars 2021: Report

Not even the Oscars are immune from the ensuing pandemic. According to Variety, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences may postpone the 93rd Academy Awards, set to go down on February 28th of next year. “It’s likely they’ll be postponed,” a source told the publication, while also contending that any definitive plans are far from concrete. Not surprisingly, the Academy declined to comment. Back in April, they announced that films released digitally can qualify to compete, a drastic amendment from their prior requirement of films having a seven-day theatrical release in Los Angeles County. However, with the entire industry still in flux — from production to distribution — it’s still unclear what films will even be released before year’s end. That uncertainty no doubt weighs heavily ...

Source: @JustInMyView / R1 Digital When Tekashi 6ix9ine was sitting in prison after having helped the feds put half of Brooklyn behind bars, most Hip-Hoppers scoffed at the idea that a successful comeback was in the cards for the government informant. The joke was on us as his first post-snitching rap video “GOOBA” has hit close to 200 million views with close to 6 million likes. Hip-Hop in 2020. But apparently the success of his latest struggle bars filled track wasn’t enough to land Tekashi at the top of the Billboard charts as that honor went to Ariana Grande and Justin Beiber’s duet “Stuck With U.” That did not sit well with Hip-Hop’s “Henry Hill” as he decided to complain and in an IG post tagged Billboard with a caption that read “YOU’RE A LIE AND CORRUPT. YOU GOT CAUGHT CHEATING AND...

Pop Smoke’s Posthumous Debut Album Is Dropping Soon

In February, rising Brooklyn drill rapper Pop Smoke was shot and killed during an apparent home invasion in the Hollywood Hills. He had spent the preceding months spreading his deep, gravelly voice across songs with Nav, Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, and more, and though he’d dropped two successful and well-received mixtapes, he still had yet to release a proper debut album. Next month, that will change. Pop Smoke’s label and family have shared a promotional image for his posthumous debut LP – as of yet still untitled — that will drop on June 12. The head of his label, Steven Victor, posted the image to his Instagram today (May 14), along with the date. The Half Of It Director Alice Wu Doesn’t Deal In Binaries

By Crystal Bell Director Alice Wu knows the power of a deadline. If her years as a software engineer for Microsoft taught her anything, it’s that true efficiency is achieved through self-imposed stress (and better time management skills, but that’s besides the point). In late 2016, she applied that knowledge to a script she had been mulling over for months. The filmmaker cut a check for $1,000, sent it to a trusted friend, and made them promise: If she didn’t finish the draft in five weeks, the money would be donated to the National Rifle Association. The guilt, coupled with constant pressure from her close circle of progressive friends, was just the motivation she needed to finish it. So in a weird way, Wu has the NRA to thank for what would eventually become The Half of...
