Elon Musk and Grimes‘ new bundle of joy sent the Internet into a spiral of confusion when the couple announced that their baby boy’s name is X Æ A-12. It remains unclear whether or not they’re trolling, or if the name is a code for another, more pronounceable one, but if they are being serious, the moniker won’t be valid in the state of California where the baby was presumably born. “In California, you can only use the ’26 characters’ of the English language in your baby name,” family law attorney David Glass told People. “Thus, you can’t have numbers, Roman numerals, accents, umlauts or other symbols or emojis. Although an apostrophe, for a name like ‘O’Connor,’ is acceptable.” Furtherm...

The tune was recorded by Rivera prior to her death in 2012 and co-written by Rivera alongside Espinoza Paz. It’s also the theme song of a campaign launched by the Rivera family in support of women empowerment throughout Mexico and U.S. “I assumed she didn’t get to record it,” Paz commented via a press release. “What a pleasant surprise to find out she did.” “Engañemoslo” lifts to 4 million in audience impressions (up 14%) earned in the week ending May 3, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Roger Deakins is taking his talents to audio. With every major Hollywood production shutdown, the Academy Award-winning cinematography (The Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, Blade Runner 2049), has launched a podcast with his wife James that they’ve aptly dubbed, Team Deakins. The goal of the series is to offer a platform for Deakins to dispense his wisdom for either young filmmakers or cinephiles who pick up their jaws and wonder how he achieved such sterling, magnificent portraits. “Over the years, we have done many Q&As and, afterwards, answered individual questions and realized that we often answer the same questions,” James Deakins told Collider. “So the idea of a podcast came to me late last year and Roger thought it would be something interesting.” James went on to credit the “s...
The Sundance Film Festival may have been a contributing factor to the spread of COVID-19, at least according to a new report by The Hollywood Reporter. The publication profiled several attendees — from festival regulars to one anonymous high-profile actor — all of whom reported similar symptoms linked to the coronavirus. One of the report’s more forthcoming interviews involved actress Ashley Jackson, who admitted that she and her colleagues had been calling their illness the “the Sundance Plague” at the time. “We all had the same symptoms, all had the cough, all had trouble breathing at night,” she explained. “Some of us got humidifiers and some got oxygen.” Eventually, Jackson recovered three weeks later. However, once news of COVID-19 began to spread, she stopped speculating and contacte...
Multi-instrumentalist and jazz composer Kamasi Washington has written the score for the new Michelle Obama documentary Becoming. The Netflix film drops today, while the score will be released on May 15th. Based on the former First Lady’s memoir of the same name, Becoming picks up where the 2018 book left off, following Obama on a 34-city promotional tour while revisiting some of the memoir’s most striking moments. It was directed by Nadia Hallgren, who knew she wanted to work with Kamasi Washington before she put the book down. She said in a statement, “Mrs. Obama loves music, and when I read the line in her book ‘And heaven, as I envisioned it, had to be a place full of jazz,’ I knew immediately Kamasi was the artist that could interpret her experience musically.” In a press rel...
Back in 2015, Kaskade was the only electronic dance music artist to perform on Coachella‘s main stage. In astonishing fashion, he went on to attract two of the largest crowds in Coachella’s illustrious history, thrusting an EDM flagpole in the peak of mainstream music and marking the genre’s territory in music’s most ubiquitous live arena. Kaskade is now turning back the clock to that monumental moment, as he took to Twitter today to announce a livestream event chronicling the milestone on Twitch. “This is certainly electronic music’s time,” Kaskade told Mashable at the time. “When I saw the aerial shots, my eyeballs popped out and my jaw dropped,” he continued. “It was insane to see it stretched so far ba...
