Much like everything else, Saturday Night Live’s 45th season was thrown for a loop when COVID-19 effectively shut down the entire world. The cast and crew have twice filled the Saturday night airwaves normally reserved for SNL with “At-Home” episodes, and they’ll do so again this weekend in what marks the season’s finale episode. The two previous “At-Home” episodes have featured celebrity cameos from Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Paul Rudd, Adam Sandler, and Larry David, as well as musical performances from Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Miley Cyrus. You can probably anticipate a similarly celebrity-filled episode this weekend, but SNL is of course keeping things close to the vest for now. This weekend’s episode could also mark the final turn for several veteran cast members: in particular, Colin Jos...
“It’s the soundtrack of our lives whether our lives are going great or going terribly,” explains Pandora head of country Beville Dunkerley. As Americans continue to shelter in place, they are turning to country music to keep them company in record numbers. Over the last two weeks, country music has enjoyed a streaming bonanza, with on-demand audio streams growing 10.7% to a record high 1.26 billion for the week ending April 23. The next week ending April 30, a new record was set as streams grew 14.3% to 1.3 billion. This is versus the baseline weekly audio average of 1.138 billion for the eight-week period Jan. 17 through March 12, according to MRC Data/Nielsen Music. A number of factors contribute to the rise. Among them are the release of new albums from Kelsea Ballerin...
This will be Oswalt’s fourth time hosting the show, which extends his record as the Webbys’ most frequent host. Patton Oswalt will host the 24th Annual Webby Awards on May 19. The show, typically held in New York City, will instead be an Internet celebration with a focus on those using the Internet to respond to the impact of COVID-19. This year’s show has been dubbed WFH: Webbys From Home. In a statement, Oswalt joked: “It’s going to be the same as every other night lately — sitting around in my pajamas, marveling at amazing stuff on the Internet — except I won’t even have to find it myself.” “No one on this planet gets the Internet and can make it funny quite like Patton Oswalt,” said Claire Graves, executive director of t...
Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s Verzuz series might serve as the battleground for a potential heavyweight bout between Jay-Z and DMX. During an interview with Drink Champs on Wednesday (May 7), the question of who DMX would be interested in competing against in Verzuz came up. With no hesitation, The Darkman replied “Jay.” Bemused by his answer, N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN promptly sought clarity, and when asked again, X doubled down and said, “Yeah! Who you think, n—a?” In the late ’90s, Jay-Z and DMX were Def Jam’s most successful stars. The friendly rivalry includes several rap battles between the legendary MCs, including their Backstage Freestyle match in 2000. In 1999, they also created the infamous supergroup Murder Inc, which starred both rappers ...
It’s Scott’s fourth No. 1 and Kid Cudi’s first. Travis Scott earns his fourth No. 1 – and Kid Cudi his first – on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart with “The Scotts,” which debuts atop the list dated May 9. “The Scotts,” credited to The Scotts, Travis Scott and Kid Cudi, bows at No. 1 with 42.2 million U.S. streams in its first week, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It’s Scott’s fourth leader and third as a lead artist. Three of those songs – “Zeze,” “Highest in the Room” and now “The Scotts” – debuted at No. 1, making Scott just the second artist t...
While some music artists are giving concerts from home and getting back into the groove of home living during the COVID-19 lockdown, Kevin Gates seems to have gone a different route and turned his house into a money making machine. At least one room of his home anyway. Keeping with the shelter-at-home orders that we depend on to save lives, Kevin Gates decided to have himself a casino night in his crib for his clip to “Still Hold Up” where the stakes are high one person at a time. That’s responsible hustling. Back on the West Coast, triple OG MC Eiht brings back the lowriders with the hydraulics that us older heads appreciate for his visuals to “Once Upon A Time.” Fitting title. Check out the rest of today’s drops including work from Quando Rondo, Kenny Muney, and more. KEVIN GATES – “STIL...

After nearly a month, Neil Young has shared his latest Fireside Sessions livestream. Like its previous three editions, the fourth one was shot and directed by Young’s wife Daryl Hannah and it took place at the couple’s home in Colorado. Starting at sunset and standing in front of a campfire, Young kicked off the set with a version of “One of These Days” from Harvest Moon before going indoors (in front of a fireplace), grabbing his harmonica and busting out “Good to See You” from 2000’s Silver & Gold. After the song, Young told Hannah that he “could never get it right” and “it seemed like a simple little song.” Young also performed the Zuma rarity “Through My Sails,” which according to Setlist.fm, is the first time he’s played the song. It was also the first version of fellow ...

I don’t think of him as a regular human.” Atkinson was also a member of the Boneshakers and went on the road for a decade with Lyle Lovett. He recorded with Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Brian Wilson, Willie Nelson, Iggy Pop, Jackson Browne, Kris Kristofferson Geroge Jones, Bob ...

But he upped his contribution to “fun things to view while in quarantine” by sharing a throwback video of him playing “Johnny B. Goode” on his signature “Blue” guitar. And even though we don’t know how old he was when this was filmed, the clip clearly shows that his guitar-playing skills have been honed from a young age. “Dear blue.
