Source: Sean Rayford / Getty The death of 24-year-old Black man Ahmaud Arbery in a small Georgia town this past February was something of a mystery as the white men who carried out the crime managed to duck any legal consequences. After video footage of the incident surfaced, state officials arrested and charged the father and son duo for killing Arbery in cold blood. As reported by several outlets, including WSB in Atlanta, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations examined video footage of the exchange between Arbery and Gregory and Travis McMichael. Arbery was jogging in the small coastal town of Brunswick in southeast Georgia when the father and son took it upon themselves to carry out vigilante justice based on a hunch that Arbery fit the description of a man accused of committing cr...

Cage the Elephant, like everyone else, have been stuck in quarantine. Just like their peers, they decided to do something fun and creative by using Zoom. In this case, it meant creating a new video for “Black Madonna.” The video, which was directed by singer Matt Shultz, was put together entirely over Zoom, is made up of a collage of new footage made under quarantine. It includes live and behind-the-scenes video from the band and is spliced together with previously never-before-seen footage. The clip also uses footage from 15 collaborators collected over the past eight weeks, including contributions from Academy Award-nominee Kasumi. The song, which was on 2019’s Social Cues, is the band’s latest song to hit No. 1 on a variety of charts, including Billboard/BDS and it hit No. 3 o...

Adventure Club and Yuna have released a follow-up collaboration that is nearly seven years in the making. The artists took the burgeoning bass music community by storm in 2013 with their iconic collaboration “Gold” and now, in 2020, they’re aiming to do it again with their latest offering, “Rebellious.” Among the initial purveyors of melodic bass, Adventure Club find themselves in their prime element on this record. Yuna’s rallying vocal carries a commanding, melodic presence that builds up to the track’s peak. The Canadian dance music duo further escalate the energy, layering in bright melodies and driving, textured chords. Despite the time that has passed since “Gold,” Adventure Club and Yuna seemingly have not missed a beat. Yu...

Future house young gun Ellis arrived on Monstercat today with his new single “Don’t Say Ur Sorry.” The disco-inspired house single, which features Australian songwriter/producer Maribelle, is part of a forthcoming EP due out on Monstercat later this year. “Don’t Say Ur Sorry” is a groovy, vocal-driven house tune with twangy bass plucks and velvety chord progressions, which lend to a quirky nu-disco and future house hybrid that should open up a new lane of admirers for the London-based producer. Ellis has been making waves in the future house scene over the course of the last couple years. Since his breakthrough remix of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” went viral in the EDM community in January 2017, he steadily rose through the ranks of the genre...

Christine and the Queens has spent the global lockdown perfecting the art of the intimate at-home performance. Last night, she showcased all she’s learned by singing “People, I’ve been sad” on Colbert. Perched on a windowsill in her Paris abode, Chris sang the track off the La Vita Nuova EP while golden-hour light cracked through the clouds on the other side of the glass. Even sitting still, her foot propped up against the frame, she proved to be one of the most emotive and graceful artists working in pop. Watch the replay below. If Christine and the Queens seems particularly comfortable with these sort of isolated performances, it’s likely because she’s been regularly delivering livestream performances for fans. Included in the streams have been covers of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights”, T...
