The legendary Joey Ramone would have turned 69 today (May 19th), and the occasion is being marked with the annual “Birthday Bash” tribute in his honor. Only this time, due to the pandemic, it will be a virtual celebration, with members of Ramones, Green Day, Sex Pistols, and more performing. The “Joey Ramone Virtual Birthday Bash” kicks off tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET on the official Facebook page of the late punk icon. Among the performers are onetime Ramones members CJ Ramone and Richie Ramone, Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, Dictators guitarist Andy Shernoff, David Bowie guitarist Earl Slick, and more. A late addition just announced this morning is a debut performance from Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, who has reworked the Ramones’ “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue” into “Now I Wanna Drink...
If you thought that time would soften the forever-going feud between Roger Waters and David Gilmour, think again! In a video posted on Tuesday, Waters ripped his ex-Pink Floyd bandmate, saying that Gilmour has cut off his access to the Pink Floyd website and that Gilmour thinks he owns it. “Nothing from me is on the website — I am banned by David Gilmour from the website,” Waters said, clearly irked. “I think he thinks because I left the band in 1985 that he owns Pink Floyd, that he is Pink Floyd and that I’m irrelevant that I should keep my mouth shut. We’re all welcome to our opinions,” he said later on. Things have been on-and-off since 1985, when Waters left the band and wanted to take hold of the Pink Floyd name. He sued his former bandmates over the name and they ...

In what should come as a surprise to no one, Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy have pushed their Hella Mega stadium tour to 2021. The bands announced the news in tweets on Tuesday (May 19) morning. “Hopefully this doesn’t come as a surprise, but as much as we were all looking forward to seeing you all this summer, everyone’s safety is our highest priority so we’ve officially made the call to reschedule all North American dates of the Hella Mega tour until next year,” a statement read. Hella Mega was supposed to hit 20 stadiums in the U.S., including Dodger Stadium, Wrigley Field, Citi Field, Fenway Park and more. Back in January, Billy Corgan revealed that the Smashing Pumpkins were working on new material. But since then, the global pandemic hit and well, things have changed a little bit, to put it mildly. However, he did “stop by” The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: At Home Edition on Monday night (May 18) to perform solo. Rocking a black bucket hat and some quarantine scruff, the Smashing Pumpkins lead singer performed “Hard Times,” which is off his 2019 album, Cotillions that he released as William Patrick Corgan. While it’s not the usual sound many are used to from Corgan, the unplugged track had lyrics that fit perfectly with what we’re all feeling right now. Watch Billy Corgan’s performance of “Hard Times” below. [embedded content] You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for ...
Brandon Flowers paid tribute to the Ian Curtis on a special charity livestream, Moving Through The Silence: Celebrating the Life & Legacy of Ian Curtis, to honor the 40th anniversary of the late Joy Division singer on Monday night (May 18). “My journey to Joy Division started at New Order. I distinctly remember being a young man and seeing ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’ on MTV and knowing that this was something I could get behind,” Flowers said in a pre-recorded clip (at 54:10) for the charity special. “As I got older and more invested in music, I traced that New Order lineage back to Ian Curtis and Joy Division. This unparalleled, stark, beautiful, primitive, soulful music: it had a profound impact on me, just like it did many others.” While some may have hoped that The Killers’ frontman wo...
What’s perhaps most memorable about 1983’s classic, Martha Coolidge-directed teen romance, Valley Girl, is its “trippin’-dicular” soundtrack, anchored by Modern English‘s “I Melt with You,” which plays over one important montage and closes out the end credits. The iconic track makes a reprise in the musical update to the charming ’80s time capsule, which arrived on-demand on May 8, but it is bolstered by the addition of other popular cuts from the era, including songs by Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and Joan Jett. In addition to its sparkly sonic identity, the 2020 film comes with new faces and new themes. Starring Jessica Rothe and Josh Whitehouse, as well as controversial YouTuber Logan Paul, the remake riffs on the...
By Christopher Rudolph As the Persian princess of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 12, Jackie Cox took viewers on a magic carpet ride. The New York-based, Canadian queen was a steady competitor throughout the season, holding her own against her seasoned New York sisters, including Brita Filter and Jan Sport. While she never won a maxi challenge, Jackie was consistently among the top-performing queens, even winning three mini-challenges. She won over RuPaul and the judges with her over-the-top impersonation of Real Housewives star Lisa Rinna on Snatch Game, and leaned into her Middle Eastern heritage when she donned an American flag-inspired hijab for the “Stars and Stripes” runway challenge. But the self-proclaimed “nerdy queen” found herself in the bottom three times. For someone with “dad...
