Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz In a move that makes all the sense in the world, Rihanna’s announced the Hot Girl, Megan The Stallion as Savage x Fenty’s newest brand partner. If you didn’t know already, Meg rapped about being a savage, classy, bougie, ratchet, those qualities on her viral hit “Savage.” Those same qualities also happen to perfectly embody Rihanna’s insanely popular lingerie line, Savage x Fent. So it should come as to no surprise that everyone was thrilled with the announcement made today (May.21) by the “Umbrella” singer and her company. In a statement Rihanna spoke on the decision to work with Megan stating: “Meg is the energy we were looking for. She is a risktaker with an attitude, character, and personality.” It also helps that decision comes right on ti...
“It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” Those words feel particularly relevant in 2020, which makes it the perfect time to revisit the start of the Rocky Balboa story — and you can do it with Philly’s Finest himself. Today, Sylvester Stallone will be hosting a livestream screening of Rocky on Facebook. To launch Creative Artists Agency’s (CAA) new weekly series “Screening Room with the Stars”, Stallone will be on hand to watch the 1976 classic with fans. The initiative will see a new film stream every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT on the movies’ respective studio’s Facebook page, so Rocky will be screened on MGM’s page. HAIM have dropped a new bop for summer playlists everywhere. “Don’t Wanna” is the latest single from their upcoming third album, Women In Music Pt. III. Listen in below. While today’s offering has a groovy bit of sun and pep in its step, ultimately it’s about trying to save a failing relationship. “Well we both had nights/ Waking up in strangers’ beds/ But I don’t wanna, don’t wanna/ I don’t want to give up yet,” sings Danielle Haim. The HAIM frontwoman also produced the track with assistance from Rostam Batmanglij and Ariel Rechtshaid. The highly-anticipated Women In Music Pt. III was initially slated for release in April, but was pushed back to June 26th due to the coronavirus pandemic. Still, the three-piece band has been busy promoting the record, having previously shared “I Know Alone...
You may not know Belgium-based singer-songwriter Meskerem Mees just yet, but she’s ready to charm you with a formal first impression. At least that’s the plan for her debut single, “Joe”, which she’s released today along with an accompanying music video. Mees is a 20-year-old indie folk artist with Ethiopian roots. Armed with an acoustic guitar and a gentle, scratchy voice, she whisks up music akin to Joni Mitchell, Laura Marling, and Jade Bird in a modest but nurturing style. After stealing the spotlight at local live shows in Europe, she’s finally begun making moves to formally record and release her music. That’s where “Joe” comes in. With a soothing, strolling guitar melody, Mees tells the story of a wandering man who won the protagonist over when she was just a teenager. The narrative...
For all intents and purposes, the 2020 concert calendar has been wiped clear by the coronavirus, with most every major tour and festival having either been canceled or postponed. While concert promoters are experimenting ways to present live music, such as concert drive-ins and audience-less livestreams, it’s unlikely we’ll find ourselves together in a crowded space until at least 2021 (and even that may be ambitious). In other words, we’ll see you in the pit… eventually. Available now in packs of two, four, and six, this “See You in the Pit… Eventually!” is one of four designs available as part of a capsule of specialty designed face masks supporting Consequence of Sound, an independently owned company, and MusiCares’ COVID-19 Artist Relief Fund. The mask is reusable and washable, made in...

With major festivals moving to a digital landscape for the foreseeable future in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, promoters, organizers, and artists have been finding some interesting and unique ways to make the virtual event experience more memorable than a straightforward livestream. Thankfully, Rave Family has just the recipe for such an experience, within the world of modern video game classic Minecraft. Enter Electric Blockaloo, a virtual festival featuring over 300 artists, recreations of real life and fictional venues, mini games, and more, all taking place on Minecraft servers. Fans are able to play and attend on desktop or mobile computers via links to artist “guestlists” that will be shared via social media, and pay a GA or VIP admission charge for ac...
The time it takes to heal from heartbreak can be excruciating and seems to last forever. Reminiscing on the good times and mourning love lost go hand in hand with those circumstances. After a short break from releasing music, bass music veteran Vanic has teamed up with GRAMMY-nominated musician, vocalist, and songwriter K.Flay on a new single that explores those painful experiences and encapsulates what the heartbroken may be feeling after such events. “So Slow” is a melodic future bass tune that not only captures the essence of heartbreak through its melancholy and pensive lyrics from K.Flay, but also mirrors that emotion within the production itself. The main section’s gloomy synth wails out a dejected melody that carries the weight of K.Flays ...
In China, virtual tipping provides a widespread, legitimate revenue stream for artists. Some think the pandemic will help (finally) normalize the practice Stateside. Andy Bothwell, a Brooklyn-based artist who performs under the moniker Astronautalis, has an online hub that lists links to his music, social media accounts and merch site. But after the coronavirus pandemic cut off the touring income he relies on to pay his bills, he added two new links to the top of the list: His Cash App and Venmo accounts, allowing fans to send him money directly. “I’m curious to see if I keep it there,” he says. His decision is more than a curiosity. As the pandemic has shut down economies across the globe, many artists are asking fans directly for cash — and music companies like SoundCloud and Spoti...
In 2017, Madonna thought she was moving to Portugal to “be a soccer mom,” but instead, the 61-year-old icon found inspiration for her then-upcoming album, Madame X, thanks to a friend she calls her “musical plug,” Dino d’Santiago. One night, the Cape Verde-born, Lisbon-based singer — who coached Madonna on how to speak Portuguese and sing in Portuguese and Creole — had arranged a concert for her by Batukadeiras Orquesta, a group of female drummers specializing in batuka, a rhythmic call-and-response style created in Cape Verde during the early days of the slave trade. “I’d never seen anything like it, never heard anything like it. So of course, I couldn’t get it out of my head,” says Madonna. She invited several members of the collective to perform on her album and even brought some to the...
In 1998, Ibiza was becoming one of the world’s freshest and most exciting destinations for dance music. The music was new, the nights were long and the tan lines were deep. Tom Holkenborg was there, performing sets under his DJ name Junkie XL. In the decades that have followed, Holkenborg’s career has evolved from producing tracks to scoring, with his work soundtracking dozens of movies and television shows including Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, The Dark Tower, Terminator: Dark Fate and the recently released Scooby Doo flick, Scoob! But arguably, none of these projects have fused Holkenborg’s history as a DJ with this current profession as well as his recent project White Lines. Premiering on Netflix May 15, the series tells the story of a woman who t...
