Wymer Publishing has set a November 20 release date for “Van Halen: A Visual Biography”. Millions of fans would attest that VAN HALEN is a band eminently deserving of a visual biography. From the single sleeves through the passes, posters and promo items and, of course, most especially David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Michael Anthony and Alex Van Halen themselves (as well as Sammy Hagar, Gary Cherone and Wolfgang Van Halen), VAN HALEN was an explosion of color and action, resulting in a feast for the eyes within the pages of this sumptuously appointed book. As one celebrates this legendary band in karate-kicking action, from the mid-’70s all the way up until the last tour in 2015 and many solo points and projects in-between, provided for your reading pleasure is one of Ma...
RATING: 8/10 Irrespective of where you lurk on the political spectrum, there must surely be moments when the urge to block out any mention of politics or politicians becomes overwhelming. Helpfully, VENOMOUS CONCEPT have spewed up their fourth studio album as the perfect means to drown out the tsunami of bullshit pouring through your various media conduits. Recorded in four days and as grubby, fucked up and unapologetically old school as it gets, grind polymaths Shane Embury and Kevin Sharp‘s latest batch of hateful hardcore punk eschews insightful comment in favor of an untamed, fuck-it-all approach that eviscerates conservative thinking by simply being angrier, snottier and more enthusiastically vulgar than just about everything else. Still firmly in the territory they carved out f...
THE PRETTY RECKLESS singer Taylor Momsen spoke to U.K.’s Rock Sound about what it was like for her and her bandmate Ben Phillips (guitar) to take on co-production duties, along with Jonathan Wyman, on the group’s upcoming album, “Death By Rock And Roll”. She said (see video below): “I think as a songwriter, at least for me, when I write a song, I hear it all in my head. So I think the job of a producer, at least for our band, has always been to help the artist guide what they’re hearing in their head and somehow figure out how to make that come out of the speakers. ‘Cause I hear everything. So then it’s just how do you physically make that happen. And that’s always a challenge. We pretty much just try everything — trial and error, trial...

TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer resigned Thursday amid U.S. pressure for its Chinese owner to sell the popular video app, which the White House says is a security risk. In a letter to employees, Mayer said that his decision to leave comes after the “political environment has sharply changed.” His resignation follows President Donald Trump’s order to ban TikTok unless its parent company, ByteDance, sells its U.S. operations to an American company within 90 days. “I have done significant reflection on what the corporate structural changes will require, and what it means for the global role I signed up for,” he said in the letter. “Against this backdrop, and as we expect to reach a resolution very soon, it is with a heavy heart that I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to leave the company...
Rapper Kanye West sued Ohio’s election chief Wednesday in an effort to be placed on the November presidential ballot after the Secretary of State deemed him unqualified as an independent candidate. West’s emergency filing against Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose comes days after the election’s chief rejected the nearly 15,000 signatures and other paperwork the rapper submitted earlier this month in an attempt to run for president, citing mismatched information on the signature-gathering documents. In the complaint, attorneys for West’s campaign in Ohio allege that it is LaRose’s duty to accept any petition for an independent candidate as long as there is no protest filed against the petition and it doesn’t violate Ohio law. Ohio was one of a number of stat...

Smash Mouth got bad press for their concert in South Dakota earlier this month. They also got hate mail. Despite the raging pandemic which has taken more than 170,000 lives across the U.S., and against conventional medical advice, Smash Mouth went and performed Aug. 9 at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally’s Buffalo Chip concert series. Images from the show traveled fast on social media, in particular footage of singer Steve Harwell who could be can be heard saying, “We’re all here together tonight. F–k that COVID s–t!” The message fell flat with some. Earlier this week, the California rockers uploaded a photo of an angry hand-written letter, framed by a Smash Mouth CD snapped into small pieces. “Recent fan mail,” the post reads. The “All Star” band and th...

Syd (photo by Alex Crick), Disclosure (photo by Hollie Fernando), and Kehlani (photo by David Brendan Hall) Later this week, Disclosure will finally unveil their first album in five years, ENERGY. But today, the UK electronic duo are offering fans one more preview in “Birthday”, an icy collaboration with Kehlani and Syd of The Internet. In some ways, the song feels like a spiritual cousin to Ariana Grande’s iconic ex-partner appreciation anthem, “thank u, next”. It’s all about toying with the idea of calling up an ex on their birthday to check in and see how they’re doing. Kehlani lays it out nicely during her verse: “I think it’s been good for us to stay up out of the way/ But it can’t hurt to check up on an ex, not to flex/ But to put the hurt to rest, put maturity to the test.” There’s ...
