Casablanca Drops MAD Paris-Customized Contax G2 Camera for $8,300 USD

Casablanca Drops MAD Paris-Customized Contax G2 Camera for $8,300 USD

Casablanca and MAD Paris are collaborative pioneers, and the two have even come together once before for a limited-series run of customized Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watches. Now, the duo is back with another reworked oddity, this time giving the iconic Contax G2 camera a fitting MAD Paris x Casablanca makeover.

The camera is as game-changing as its collaborators — when it was launched in 1996 (and produced up until 2005), the G2 was the world’s most advanced rangefinder camera. Its small body and punchy performance meant it became a trusty companion to any budding photographer, and more established ones who needed something portable, and today it still reigns as a camera loved by many.

That’s because it features a 35mm autofocus, a four-frame-per-second integrated motor drive, shutter speeds of up to 1/6000 per second, X-sync at 1/200 per second and an extended baseline-autofocus system with the Carl Zeiss Planar 45mm f2 lens. Now, all this is packaged in a MAD Paris x Casablanca offering.

Casablanca is known for its bold color choices, and this camera is no exception. Here, MAD Paris has hand-applied ceramic multi-colored coatings, adding rich primary hues of blue, green, yellow, and red. Casablanca’s logo hits the front toggle, while on the rear you’ll find the brand’s moniker in its usual font.

Contax G2 branding is placed as expected, however, it now appears alongside “MAD” on the topside of the camera. A special carry cord rounds this unique piece off.

Take a look at the MAD Paris x Casablanca Contax G2 camera above, and buy one for yourself on Casablanca’s website for €7,500 EUR (approx. $8,300 USD/£6,400 GBP).

In other news, Carrots and Retrospekt have collaborated on a Polaroid camera.
