Caroline Polachek has unveiled a sonic new body of work, Desire, I Want To Turn Into You. Out for streaming now, the album follows her 2019 breakout LP Pang and is almost entirely produced by Polachek and her collaborator Danny L. Harle.
For her latest endeavor, the artist has not only continued to lean into her experimental pop sound but has boldly flexed her range within the realms of melodies, instrumentation and electronic production. From the bagpipes on “Blood And Butter” to a touch of flamenco on “Sunset,” Polachek is pushing the bounds of what it means to be a contemporary pop artist.
On “Fly To You,” she teams up with Dido and Grimes for an unexpected collaboration that’s well worth the listen. There are also two remixes of the album’s lead track, “Welcome To My Island,” one of which comes from Charli XCX and The 1975’s George Daniel. Among the other offerings are a few previously released tracks such as “Bunny is a Rider,” “Billions” and “Sunset.”
This April, Polacheck will kick off her headlining North American run, The Spiraling Tour, beginning in Philadelphia at the Franklin Music Hall and joined by George Clanton. Later stops will feature opening acts from Toro y Moi, Sudan Archives, Magdalena Bay and Ethel Cain.
