Carlos Sarabia Scores First Top 10 on a Billboard Chart With ‘Mientras Me Voy’

Mexican Carlos Sarabia achieves his first top 10 on a Billboard chart as “Mientras Me Voy,” with Luis Angel ‘El Flaco,’ lifts 13-10 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart dated July 23.

“Mientras Me Voy” ascends from No. 13 despite a 6% dip in audience impressions, to 3.5 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending July 17, to become the tenth-most heard song among regional Mexican radio stations, according to Luminate.

“Mientras” completes its steady trek to the top 10 in its 10th week, after the song debuted at No. 37 on the May 31-dated survey. Sarabia’s original version of “Mientras,” which did not make it to the charts, was released in 2019. The new version, with Luis Angel ‘El Flaco,’ was released in April 2022.

Meanwhile, Sarabia’s new version gifts Luis Angel his second top 10 in his fourth attempt. Previously, the latter secured a first top 10 hit with “Y Si Se Quiere Ir” (March 26-dated ranking).

Notably, it’s the first top 10 on a Billboard chart for Sarabia, who notched a maiden entry as a solo act when album his debut Tú y Yo arrived — and peaked — at No. 73 on the Top Latin Albums chart in 2005. His first entry on any Billboard ranking landed after a five-year stint as part of Banda El Recodo (1998-2003), with whom he captured five Regional Mexican Airplay No. 1s.

The Mazatlán singer-songwriter’s solo career deviated a second time when he joined Banda Los Recoditos (2008-2012) with whom Sarabia scored the group’s longest-charting No. 1 title as “Ando Bien Pedo” ruled for 12 weeks in 2010. Sarabia concluded his band career with a three-year run as part of La Adictiva Banda San José de Mesilllas (2015-2018), snatching four Regional Mexican Airplay No. 1s as part of the ensemble.

Further, “Mientras” keeps rolling on the all-genre Latin Airplay chart, which measures songs’ audience reach among U.S. Latin stations. There, the song jumps 35-31 in its sixth week, Sarabia’s first entry and highest ranking since the collab. debuted at No. 45 in June.

Wisin & Camilo’s “Buenos Días” hits No. 1 on Latin Airplay Chart: Elsewhere, on Latin Airplay, Wisin and Camilo’s “Buenos Días” ascends from No. 16 to lead the July 23 list in its 19^th week (the song was released Jan. 14 via Los Legendarios/LaBase/WK/Sony Music Latin).

“Buenos Días” lands at No. 1 boosted by a hefty 82% increase in audience impressions, to 9.4 million, a 44% increase ahead of the second-most gainer in terms of percentages: Bad Bunny’s “Moscow Mule” (38%, to 6.6 million in audience).

“Buenos Días” occupies the top slot after a concentrated promotion in tandem with a marketing campaign with Live Nation in support of Wisin & Yandel’s La Última Misión World Tour which launched in May 27. According to the label, the promotion involved the artist doing radio interviews, meet-and-greets with radio station listeners and ticket giveaways.

The song’s sturdiest station supporters by audience in the July 11-17 tracking week were WSKQ New York (1.8 million impressions, up 89%), KXOL Los Angeles (989,000, up 475%) and WPAT New York (926,000 impressions, up from none the week before).

“Buenos Días’” 19-week march to No. 1 ties with Jhay Cortez and Anuel AA’s “Ley Seca” for the longest trek to the top in 2022. The latter took an equal 19 weeks to take over atop the Feb. 5-dated ranking.

Lastly, with a 16-1 surge, the song takes the third-highest climb to the top this year, after Shakira and Rauw Alejandro’s “Te Felicito” (49-1) and J Balvin and Ed Sheeran’s “Forever My Love” (36-1). Both peaked at No. 1 in their second weeks as the former debuted at No. 49 with four days of airplay (April 30) and the latter at No. 36 with three (April 2).
