Netflix has dropped off the first trailer for Captains of the World, a forthcoming series that will offer a closer look at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Made in partnership with FIFA+ and produced by Fulwell 73, the six-episode project is set to go behind the scenes of the global soccer tournament, which took place in Qatar in November and December of last year. The series will arrive as the follow-up to Captains, which previously chronicled various players’ journeys through the qualifying rounds for the event.
The trailer includes big moments from the games, as well as snippets from exclusive interviews with some of the sport’s best players, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane, Gareth Bale and Simon Kjær. “This is a World Cup, and it’s really tough,” Messi says to the camera. “We’re going to fight.” Later on, Ronaldo adds, “Everybody wants to win.”
Messi’s Argentina team took home the top trophy at the 2022 World Cup, beating Mbappé’s French team in a round of penalty kicks. Messi, who also took home the Golden Ball as the best overall player at the time, has since gone on to win a record eighth Ballon d’Or.
Captains of the World is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on December 30. Watch the official trailer above.
