Capitol Music Group Looks to Larry Mattera to Lead Flagship Label

Capitol Music Group Looks to Larry Mattera to Lead Flagship Label

Mattera comes from more than 25 years of experience in digital marketing and music strategy. Most recently, he served as general manager and executive vice president of commerce and marketing at Warner Records since 2016. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing label operations and all artist and new release campaigns, including projects from artists like Dua Lipa, Bebe Rexha, Lil Pump, Jason Derulo, Gorillaz, Gary Clark Jr, Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day.

Before Warner Records, Mattera spent eight years as the senior vp of global digital accounts at WEA, Warner Music Group’s global artist and label service arm. He has also served at Amp’d Mobile, Island Def Jam (where he pioneered its digital marketing efforts with the creation of a New Media Department), Polygram Group Distribution and Epic Records, where he began his career in 1994.

“I want to thank Jeff for this incredible opportunity to join a label that has long been home to some of the greatest and most culturally relevant artists in the history of the music business,” Mattera said. “I know that my experience and progressive approach to developing and breaking artists in a streaming-centric marketplace perfectly complements Jeff’s vision for Capitol Records. I’m also looking forward to playing an integral role as a member of Jeff and [CMG COO] Michelle Jubelirer’s CMG executive management team, and working closely with such an impressive group of passionate music professionals.”

Mattera’s hire marks the first personnel announcement from Vaughn, who was promoted to his current role in November. Vaughn first joined CMG in January 2020, when he left his prior position as vice president of A&R at Artist Partner Group to become president of Capitol Records. When former CMG chairman/CEO Steve Barnett announced his retirement last month, Vaughn was announced as his successor.
