Can fennel seeds with two almonds at bedtime help improve vision?

Can fennel seeds with two almonds at bedtime help improve vision?

In the vast landscape of health advice available online, it’s commonplace to stumble upon posts offering seemingly simple remedies that promise quick fixes for various ailments. While these suggestions may appear harmless, it’s imperative to approach them with a degree of caution. Navigating the complex terrain of health and wellness requires seeking expert guidance to ensure our well-being.

One such post that we came across on Instagram was from the Indian_veg-diet page, which shared that a few fennel seeds taken with two almonds at bedtime can help improve eyesight. “Eat two almonds with one spoon of fennel seeds. Good results will start coming in a few days,” it read.

Dr Sanjiv Gupta, director and senior eye surgeon, i Care Centre, New Delhi said that while fennel and almonds both offer nutritional benefits that support overall eye health, there’s limited scientific evidence to suggest that consuming them together significantly improves eyesight. “Fennel contains vitamin A, a crucial nutrient for maintaining eye health, while almonds provide vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids, which are also beneficial,” he said.

Vitamin A is known for its role in maintaining the health of the retina and supporting vision in low light. Almonds, rich in vitamin E, function as an antioxidant that may help protect the eyes from oxidative damage. Omega-3 fatty acids contribute to overall eye health by supporting the structure of cell membranes in the eye.

However, it’s essential to note that the improvement of eyesight is a complex process influenced by various factors such as genetics, lifestyle, and overall health. “While a balanced diet, including fennel and almonds, can contribute to eye health, it’s not a guaranteed cure for vision issues. It’s advisable to consult with an eye care professional for personalised advice and to address specific concerns about eyesight,” said Dr Gupta.

Dr Digvijay Singh, director, Noble Eye Care, Gurugram shared it’s essential to follow a holistic approach to maintaining good vision.

This includes:

  • Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Maintaining a healthy weight.
  • Protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays by wearing sunglasses.
  • Not smoking.
  • Regular eye exams to detect and address any vision problems early on.
