Cameroonian Makossa Legend Ben Decca Teams Up with EDUKE for Silky House Single “Belembete”

Cameroonian Makossa Legend Ben Decca Teams Up with EDUKE for Silky House Single “Belembete”

Cameroonian-born techno and tech house producer EDUKE and Makossa legend Ben Decca have joined forces on a rhythmic new single called “Belembete,” the duo’s first offering in a series of forthcoming collaborations.

Currently based in Miami, EDUKE’s work has garnered support from several major dance music tastemakers, including ClaptoneClaude Von Stroke, and David Guetta, among others. While his work has been highly sought after for its ability to command a club floor, EDUKE has sought to channel more traditional Cameroonian influences in his recent work. His latest offering “Belembete” is a minimalistic, house-inspired production built upon a strong foundation of hand-drum instrumentation, and it is characteristic of the Makossa sound out of the Central-African nation.

It’s no mistake “Belembete” will have you feeling the sudden urge to get up and move. The word Makossa itself means “dance” in the Duala language. To that end, there’s arguably no better representative of the genre at the moment than Ben Decca, whose silky vocals ebb and flow over “Belembete” on an even keel. The steady-handed approach is partially what has shaped Decca’s legacy, as he has been described as “the man with the golden voice.” Decca has a jaw-dropping catalog of over 150 songs to his name.
