‘Call of Duty: Warzone 2’ Will Reportedly Bring Back Classic ‘Modern Warfare 2’ Maps

‘Call of Duty: Warzone 2’ Will Reportedly Bring Back Classic ‘Modern Warfare 2’ Maps

Back in April, Activision and Infinity Ward finally confirmed the long-rumored Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, building on the massive success of the Modern Warfare reboot in 2019. Around the same time, the company also revealed that a new Warzone experience will be coming, but since then, little information regarding both MW2 and Warzone 2 has been released — until now. According to Exputer‘s Tom Henderson, sources close to the project have said that the upcoming installment will be bringing back some of the most iconic maps in the entire franchise, reviving 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 classics such as Terminal, High Rise, Quarry and Afgan.

The maps will all be expanded upon and connected together to create a much larger combat area players are now used to for Warzone, with High Rise and Quarry taking up the top right and top left of the map while Terminal will sit closer to the bottom. Afgan will occupy much of the center of the region, sitting in between the three.

Aside from returning maps, Warzone 2 is also expected to introduce a new gameplay mechanic called Strongholds. The new feature will introduce roughly 25 to 30 new Strongholds spread out across the entirety of the battle zone, and players will be able to capture them by completing set objectives and defeating the AI guarding them. Once captured, you’ll be able to access the upgrades it contains, and no other players will then be able to claim that Stronghold for themselves.

Of course, none of these rumors have been officially confirmed by Activision just yet, so Call of Duty fans should take Henderson’s leaks with a pinch of salt while waiting for the developer to reveal more about both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.

Elsewhere in gaming, Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive is planning to release eight more remakes by 2025.
