The free online programme will explore the African music ecosystem, a rapidly evolving yet largely underrepresented part of the global music market. The seminars will explore its potential for future opportunities in the world market, including collaborations and exporting music.
Led by Byta founder and CEO Marc Brown, the first talk in the series will take place on 30 March and feature musician Naimah and culture curator Fundi.
By providing a platform for discussion and collaboration, the Africa Music Is Rising! series aims to foster partnerships that will help to increase the visibility and recognition of African music on the world stage, while highlighting opportunities for African artists to collaborate with and learn from industry experts worldwide.
By the end of the series, participants will gain insights into the African music industry’s current state and future prospects while highlighting the challenges that artists and industry stakeholders face in the African music ecosystem and exploring potential solutions to these challenges.
The series serves as a precursor to the Africa Rising Music Conference, a female-led, executive-focused summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, this May. The conference will feature a mix of local and international delegates, and centre around the urban and electronic music industries, highlighting the Afro-European connection between these genres.
Run as a distribution team across three continents, Byta is also behind the #HowWeListen Live: In Conversation podcast, which happens monthly and features workshops and an in-depth interviews designed to deliver the knowledge that enables emerging artists and industry leaders to better navigate the music ecosystem.
