California Highway Patrol to Add Lucid Air to Its Fleet

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is testing a new addition to its fleet, an electric Lucid Air police cruiser. According to a recent X post and coverage, this new vehicle marks a potential shift for the CHP, which currently operates Ford Explorers, Dodge Chargers and BMW motorcycles. The Lucid Air, fitted in traditional black-and-white livery, has been enhanced with police lights, a crash bar and a public address system, ensuring it meets the demands of law enforcement.

While the specific model in use has not been shared, the Lucid Air does offer a highly capable range in hp, starting at 420 and exceeding 1,230 hp in its top-of-range Sapphire model. With its performance capabilities and range of 406 to 480 miles, the Lucid Air could make for a highly versatile addition to the CHP fleet.

At the time of writing, CHP has yet to share an official statement on whether or not the vehicle will be placed into active use. However, Lucid has confirmed that the vehicle is being tested by the law enforcement agency.
