Cali Thornhill DeWitt recently featured a series of obituary sweatshirts to honor the lives of a number of influential figures, from Darby Crash and Carrie Fisher, to Joan Crawford and Whitney Houston. To follow, the Los Angeles-based visual artist and director has unveiled a solo exhibition of work encompassing his multi-disciplinary practice.
Housed at HVW8 Berlin and made in conjunction with adidas Originals, “Live Forever 2” presents a wide-range of artwork that spans prints, paintings and textile artworks that contextualize sourced imagery with DeWitt’s charged political narrative. On one canvas, the artist depicts an open casket with large sans serif type stating, “COMING SOON.” In another, DeWitt features four different roses with the message, “UNTAMED ANIMAL.”
Having worked with Kanye West to design the Yeezy Season 3 collection, DeWitt has become a mainstay in both the fashion and art world and the latest exhibition offers a unique opportunity to examine his expansive career. “Live Forever 2” is on view at HVW8 Berlin until June 25.
In other art-related news, a 2,000-year-old Roman bust was purchased for $35 USD at a Goodwill in Texas.
