British Car Brand Caterham Is Coming for the EV Sports Sector With Its Project V Concept

British car brands are causing quite a stir in the automotive industry today, and now even left-field marques like Caterham are looking to take down the giants with its all-new concept, the Project V.

While its main competitors — the Alpine A110S and Lotus Emira — are petrol-powered, the Caterham Project V has a top trump up its sleeve that could future-proof it. That’s right, it’s electric. And it’s not just an eco-friendly stunt, as the light but mighty ethos of Caterham’s previous cars infiltrates the Project V’s very premise.

The single rear-mounted electric motor provides 268 BHP, giving the car a 0-62 MPH time of 4.5 seconds or less, an estimated top speed of 143 MPH, and a range of 249 miles. These figures are achieved thanks to the use of a carbon fiber and aluminum composite chassis, which brings the total kerb weight of the car to just 1,190kg, assuming it comes with its three-seat layout, rather than the optional four-seater configuration.

With this in mind, the Caterham Project V is designed to be a back-road blaster and a track-day toy. Per the marque’s CEO Bob Laishley, “An electric Caterham of any shape and size has to stay true to what sets us apart from everyone else: being lightweight, simple and offering an unparalleled driving experience; that’s our DNA.”

All this could be coming in 2025 for a price under £80,000 GBP/$100,000 USD. Stay tuned to Hypebeast and Hypedrive for more news, and check out the car in more detail here.

Elsewhere in the automotive industry, Aston Martin has unveiled its latest bespoke Super-GT.
