Brisbane Will Officially Host the 2032 Summer Olympics

With the Tokyo Olympics around the corner, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially selected the next city to host the Summer Games in 2032. Brisbane, Australia is the city of choice, making Australia a three-time Olympic Host. Sydney held the games in 2000 and Melbourne hosted them in 1956.

The IOC now has the next three locations for the Olympic Summer Games mapped out, with the 2024 games taking place in Paris, 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and now Brisbane in 2032. Brisbane has become the first city to win the summer bid under the new selection process. The old bidding process received a lot of criticism for corruption and instability as candidates often pulled out of contention too late.

IOC President Thomas Back said in a statement, “Brisbane 2032 is the first future host to have been elected under, and to have fully benefited from, the new flexible approach to electing Olympic hosts.”

In the next couple of years, Brisbane and its surrounding areas are set to host a bevy of sporting events including the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, the 2022 UCI Road World Championships in cycling and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The Tokyo Olympics are set to begin on July 23 and will run until August 8. The Paralympics will take place from August 24 to December 5.

In case you missed it, Aaron Rodgers recently declined Green Bay Packers extension deal that would have made him the highest-paid QB.
