Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree hits #1 for first time

Brenda Lee made music history on Monday.

Rockin’ Around the Christmas tree, which the singer, 78, first released in 1958, reached number one on the Billboard charts for the very first time.

Rockin’ Around the Christmas tree has got close to number one on several occasions, reaching number two in 2019 and again in 2022, according to Billboard

Dolly Parton, who recently reminisced about meeting Keanu Reeves as a child,  reached out to congratulate her longtime friend and the song’s 65 year history on social media.

‘Well hey Brenda Lee,’ the 77-year-old superstar said. ‘I want to join you in celebrating the 65th anniversary of your classic hit Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.’

The hitmaker was dressed in a sparking pink outfit with a plunging neckline in the clip shared on Instagram.

Her blonde hair was styled in loose waves and she wore natural looking makeup with a muted pink lip.

The Grammy winner accessorized with dangling earrings made of precious pink stones.

Dolly couldn’t help herself from promoting her own Rock Star album, which was released November 17.

She ended the message wishing her fellow singer a ‘Merry Christmas’ and singing the line ‘and I will always love you,’ from her most successful song.

Rockin’ Around the Christmas tree has gone platinum five times and  flirted with number one several times, but never got higher than number two in 2019 and again in 2022.

In honor of the 65th anniversary, a video was created for the song featuring the crooner in a bright red holiday dress singing the tune at a family tree trimming party.

Tanya Tucker, 65,  and Trisha Yearwood, 59,  put in guest appearances.

Brenda was only 13 when she recorded the song by the late Johnny Marks.

The Bronze Star Medalist was Jewish, but had had a lot of success writing holiday tunes, including the music for Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Run Rudolph Run.

She is the oldest artist to ever have a holiday tune hit the top of the Billboard 100 and the song holds the record for the longest wait to reach the high mark.

It is her third number one song and her first since 1960.

Several other holiday hits are in the top 10, including Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms at number four, George Michael’s beloved Last Christmas in fifth place followed by ’ Burl Ives and A Holly Jolly Christmas in sixth, and Andy William’s classic It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year landed at number 10.
